AC Compressor is the part that converts the refrigerant gas into liquid before pumping into the condenser. Usually, this part has a long life, but it may malfunction without your knowledge.
The clearest sign of AC Compressor malfunctioning is that the air will not be as cold as desired. The compressor clutch may remain in ‘on’, resulting in more fuel consumption. In this case, it is advisable to replace the whole ‘compressor and clutch’ unit instead of only the clutch. A few other signs of malfunctioning of an AC Compressor are leaking moisture, strange noises, etc.
The average lifespan of an AC Compressor can be between 10 – 15 years. However, it is advisable to get it checked regularly for maximum efficiency.
